EDIT: CONTEST FOR GIVEAWAY OPEN UNTIL MONDAY EVENING, 10 p.m. SHARP!
In about three months time, I'll be a happily married kallah. First and foremost this means I'll be both happy and married. What comes next, of course, are a few changes, the most immediate probably being that I'll be covering my hair! Yes, I'm going to cover my hair. The devastated looks on peoples' faces when I relate this news is funny to me. The typical verbal reaction is, "But your hair is so ... it's so you!" It's true, and I've had this hair for a long time, since I cut it right before my senior year of high school. I've been using the same product, styling it the same, for the past nine years. I'll admit, I'm a little sad about the prospect, too. In shul, women identify me by my hair, and I'm worried that the when I start covering I'm going to fade into the background, being just another married Orthodox Jewish woman with her hair covered. This, of course, is a truly fleeting thought for me. After all, isn't my personality the one thing that truly should shine? Not my hair?!
So why am I covering my hair? Maybe it's all of the incredibly beautiful hat, scarves, and other things I'll be able to paint my noggin with! (That's too easy, however, especially with all of the pretty things over at CoverYourHair.com.) In truth, the reasons are plenty. I don't know that I can really verbalize them well, but it's about being committed to my husband, spiritually and visibly; it's about respect to HaShem; and it's about being me, a new phase of me, the Jewish married me. I'm excited about covering, and in preparation for this new step, I've been stockpiling pretty head coverings, including when I was in Israel and bought a few scarves. I'm not going sheitel style, at least for the immediate future until it is or becomes necessary. One of the beautiful items I've added to the collection, provided by the lovely ladies of CoverYourHair, is a Cute Pull-On Hat -- a cute, crocheted number that, well, give it a look below.

I like the hat and scarf combo in grey. http://www.coveryourhair.com/hats/caps/plaid-hat-and-scarf-set.html
I recognize you by your hair but I don't think it'll take too long for folks to become accustomed to seeing you with head covered. Your hats and scarves can be just as Chavi as your hairstyle.
Soft Classy Winter Hat and love the one you're wearing are my choices. Also I joined the Google feed and the Facebook group.
I love the plaid hat and scarf set in purple and black... thinknig about growing my hair out, so it come in very useful...!

I really love hats, but so many of the ones I have are for the winter. So I'm thinking of trying a pretied!

Love the feather hard headbands!
two non web places that I have had good luck for hats etc...(I don't cover all the time, but I do mostly for holidays and weekly visits to shull...) Century 21 Dept. Store and Burlington Coats etc.......
I LOVE the little hats with the flower on the side and I have always been partial to the Israeli style tichels. I know I will have a stable of colors when I get married... I mean heck, I already have a ton of regular scarves... :)
Their website is awesome!
The plum hat is gorgeous! I missed the deadline, so I placed an order for myself. . . not for religious reasons, but because I am a certified hat junkie :-) Please keep posting about the stylish hair coverings you find.
Kerri -- NO WORRIES! The contest is *still* open. I'm just going to hold it until Monday night. I'm *too* pooped to do anything about it now.
I followed @coveryourhair on twitter! I'm @precioustovah. I'll be covering my hair after I get married in November too!

My hair can be anywhere from a foot tall to higher so my husband used to spot me in shul by watching my hair bop up and down over the mechitzah. I also really looked forward to covering my hair and people thought I was crazy!
My favorite item at coveryourhair.com is the All Around-Wide Pre-Tied Headband: http://www.coveryourhair.com/headbands/all-around-wide-pre-tied-headband.html.
Because my hair is short, I just let a bit of hair peek out from underneath (but awful people will still come over and tell me they don't think that my hair is properly covered) and it's the most flattering look. (I went through so many looks realizing quickly that they didn't fit my head/hair or they made me look terrible, etc. I have TOOOONS of different styles if you'd like to hang out and try on a bunch.)
I think this is nifty

Too bad I missed it. I love covering my hair. I now crochet a lot of my hats. Cover in good health!
I leave my bangs out. I look weird otherwise. Probably isn't proper to some people but works for me. If it didn't, I wouldn't cover at all so...here's our happy compromise. My hair is short so even with a newsboy cap on, the edges peek out. But I do like to cover and started last June...I have two sheitels which I wouldn't be seen dead in at work...or at my regular shul as a matter of fact...but which I like to wear on occassion when I attend the O shul in town. Bangs and all :D
