Guest Post? Anyone? Bueller?

I'm looking for some knowledgable folks on the following topics, because, well, they're things I'm curious about and know nothing about. I'd be happy (really happy) to reserve your identity if its a topic that would cause you undue harm to speak openly about said topic. Or maybe you're a guy who knows a guy and thus can talk about some of these. Just let me know. Mmk? Mmk.

  • Same-sex couples: how do they handle the laws of ta'harat ha'mishpacha? For women, dealing with mikvah, for men, not having mikvah as a normative activity. I'd be curious about covering (for women), tallit traditions for men, etc.
  • Community standards and the halakot. I know plenty about what's what, although I'm a little lacking on the halakot specifics on many things (I'm smart enough to know that a lot of what people think is halakah actually is community standard), but I want to hear someone else's perspective on the issue.
  • The halakot of hair covering, the varieties therein, and why the "Captain Jack Sparrow" is so normative (how on earth can I learn to tell when women have a fall on underneath their Captain Jack -- which, I also now am willing to call the "Bret Michaels" [see photo above if you don't get it]).
If you're willing to blog about anything you might rock my readers' minds, just let me know. I'm doing this show solo, but I'd love to get some different opinions on all things Jewish.

I am very curious how this curiosity about how same-sex couples live a fum life fits in with your "I'm so Odox and frum, I cannot tolerate the idea that a Rabbi is an atheist" views.

Too super-frum to tolerate a man's honesty about his beliefs, but so super liberal that how lesbians deal with the TH is a concern of yours? Never mind the L'H issues....amazing.

Anonymous because we have traveled the same circles.

I never said I couldn't tolerate the idea that a Rabbi has atheistic views. What I can't tolerate is that he's misleading and deceiving his congregation. For the 1 millionth time: I have no problem with someone believing whatever they want. I have plenty of Jewish and Christian atheist friends, and I'm perfectly okay with them. But they're owning what they believe, and this guy is not. He's getting his kicks deceiving and pulling one over on people. It has nothing to do with his Jewishness or Judaism, in fact if he were an atheist priest or pastor I'd feel the same way. It's about ethics.

My query about same-sex couples isn't just about lesbians, mind you. It's about all same-sex couples, it just appears there are more issues involving taharat ha'mishpacha with women. I'm intrigued because I KNOW several couples like this, but don't want to flat out ask them these questions, because I think it'd be informative for my entire readership, not just me. I'm a very socially liberal person, and I don't think it contradicts with my Orthodox beliefs set or lifestyle. If you have a problem with it, that's your problem, not mine.

Chaviva, I really, really respect how you stand up for your beliefs. By your topic's content I knew you'd have to deal with this kind of reaction, and I knew how you would handle it: with class and knowledge. Brava.

Ofir, that means so much to me that you know how I roll. Thank you for your confidence!

I know someone who, if they have the time, could do a guest post about same-sex couples and halacha (at least about women)... E-mail me and I'll pass you her info: glutenfreebay (at) gmail(dot) com The person I'm thinking of is very learned, is Orthodox (FFB) and a lesbian

If a couple can so blatently ignore a lav in the Torah, what leads you to think they would bother with family purity?
